I'm Autistic and nonverbal. I may elope or wander if given the opportunity, and I do not have reliable danger awareness. Please stay with me and keep me away from traffic, water, parking lots, and other unsafe areas.
If I become overwhelmed or dysregulated, please approach me calmly and proceed with care. Give me space, use a quiet and reassuring voice, and avoid touching me unless I reach for you. My iPad and blanket are familiar comfort items and may help me feel safe and regulate.

When Georgie feels overwhelmed, upset, or needs a little time to calm down, his iPad and favorite blanket can help him feel safe and comfortable. Offering these familiar items and giving him a quiet space with a little time to settle can make a big difference. Please be patient and allow Georgie to calm down at his own pace.
Georgie is non-verbal and uses an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) device to communicate. His AAC device is his voice and allows him to tell you what he wants, needs, feels, likes, or if something is wrong. If you have never used an AAC device before, you don't need any special training to communicate with Georgie. Give him access to his device, speak to him normally, and give him plenty of time to respond. He may select pictures, words, or buttons on the screen to create a message. Please don't take the device away, rush him, or press buttons for him unless he asks for help. Watch what he selects, listen to the device, and respond just as you would to someone speaking. If you're unsure what he means, it's okay to ask a simple question and give him another chance to answer. Most importantly, be patient and include Georgie in the conversation. His device is his voice.
Please don’t touch me unless I reach for you first. Use a calm, gentle voice and give me plenty of personal space. Don’t rush me or overwhelm me with too many questions or instructions at once. Give me extra time to understand what you’re saying and respond. Stay calm, be patient, and let me move at my own pace.
